Of course, I'm a Ranma addict (you need look no further
than my Soun Tendo Shrine to figure that
out). It's a perfect introductory anime, and the second Anime I watched
(Robotech/Macross being the first and not counting Speed Racer).
The storyline is a little complicated ("Just a little, Sure,"-RGB), but
the Martial Arts and strong Akane/Ranma interaction keeps the story moving,
despite the sidetracks (which generally lead to greater Akane/Ranma interaction
anyhow).
I got started on Ranma 1/2 by reading borrowed Viz Graphic Novels from
my good friend Adah. A few months later I "Borrowed" a friend's copy,
and 'magicly' a copy of the first 6 hours of Ranma 1/2 showed up in my
VCR 8-). I was hooked, and have since collected all the Eps until
the Breaking Point and 5 Viz Graphic Novels. I've also Otaku-inized
my Fiancee, and half of her family. The powers of Ranma are great
indeed, I only hope that they are only use for good. 8-)
While the animation style is nice, and I do love
the look of Nerima, Whisper of the Heart and
Ghost in the Shell have better character animation, IMHO. The Characters
develop over time (although not nearly fast enough for the fans 8-)) and
you can watch traits delevlop. Anothe intreating thing is that each
ep seems like a piece of a humorous Anime RPG. (Come on, why do you think
Ranma alway fails to find peace from his 'curse', the GM is keeping the
charecter in line 8-)). In fact the reason I started my TFOS campaign
as Furinkan High Roleplaying was because I saw
12 straight hours of Ranma eps. 8-)
This will probably be expanded as time goes
on.
